System Firmware Update Instructions for Pioneer Dashcam VREC-H120SC

Updating Entry Model (VREC-H120SC) from SD Card

If you're using a new SD card that hasn't been used in the same model before, it must be formatted by the DVR before updating the DVR firmware.

If the card is already being used with H120, you may skip the format procedure.

To format a new SD card:

  1. Insert the SD card into the DVR slot.
  2. The DVR will play an audio message prompting you to format the card. At this point, the LED will fade in and out Red.
  3. Press the button on the DVR three times to format the SD card. Audio prompts will confirm the format.
  4. The LED status will turn green once the format is successful, and the DVR will start recording.
  5. The SD card is now ready for copying firmware update files. Remove the SD card from the DVR.

To upgrade the DVR firmware:

  • Power on the DVR and note the WiFi SSID you observe on the WiFi Scan List in your mobile. It should be either of the following:
    • Pioneer_H120_xxx
    • SSID containing M3513
    • SSID containing KAWA
  • Copy the following files to the root directory of the SD card.
    Based on the original SSID, you may need to rename the 4th file.

      Name of File:

    • IPL
    • IPL_CUST
    • UBOOT
    • FW_4512.bin *

    * If the original SSID is Pioneer_H120_xxx, leave it unchanged. If the original SSID includes M3513, rename the file to FW_3513.bin. If the original SSID include KAWA, rename the file to FW_CJ4512.bin.

  • Turn off the DVR and Insert the SD card into the designated slot.
  • Power on the DVR and observe LED color.
  • Upgrade will start. The LED will be blinking Blue at this point.
  • Post Successful upgrade, Audio prompt “Upgrade Successful” is player by the DVR. LED will start to fade in and our Green.
  • In case of failure, LED will be RED.
  • You can verify the updated version number from the DVR UI or mobile application’s Settings page.
